Will Podium Analytics continue its work in this area?

Yes.

We remain committed to improving safety and reducing injury in sport and will continue our work in new ways with a greater focus on our work with colleagues at The Podium Institute for Youth Sport Technology at the University of Oxford and other research institutes on projects that closely align with our charitable objectives.

How can I stay updated?

If you’d like to stay up to date with Podium’s work, and other opportunities to be part of ongoing research, sign up for our Podium Analytics newsletter here.

Why is this happening?

Over the last 7 years since its inception, Podium Analytics has made significant progress in creating a national and international conversation and focus on sports injury prevention within grassroots sport.

Through a collaboration with the University of Oxford, we established The Podium Institute of Sports Medicine & Technology, the world’s first independent academic institute dedicated to preventing sports injuries. Focusing on youth, grassroots, and professional athletes, the Institute has instigated, in its first 3.5 years, over 50 discovery science research projects across four thematic pillars in Brain Health, Musculoskeletal Health, Cardiovascular Health, and Mental Health, Sleep & Cognition.

Alongside this we have developed translational research projects and programmes in sports injury prevention to help bring the best evidence to practitioners, teachers, coaches, parents and players. We have supported our work with our digital tools including SportSmart and MySportSmart.

Most of all, the successful impact of our work has been achieved by working in collaboration with partners such as yourselves.

We have recently completed a strategic review that has carefully analysed the impact of all our work. Our Trustees have concluded that we are likely to have the greatest impact by refocusing our resources around a smaller number of priority areas. Predominantly, our work at the Podium Institute and ensuring that we can support the implementation of that research into real world sport as much as possible. Not least in the area of head injury, where we believe we can make a significant difference.

We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved through these programmes, and these decisions have not been taken lightly.
